Roberto "Bobby" J Gonzales NM Representative District 42 (Taos)
New Mexico State House Representative Roberto J. “Bobby” Gonzales represents District 42 which includes Taos County.
Gonzales graduated with a BS from the University of New Mexico and graduated with a MA from New Mexico Highlands University.
He serves as a member in the Taxation and revenue committee and the Transportation and he serves as a chair in the Public Works committee.
Gonzales has been a representative since 1994.
Bobby has always been a part of non-popular legislation. The most recent I can remember was the tortilla tax fiasco. He wanted to and pushed very hard for a new tax on the poor. He wanted them to pay a food tax. This is not done in civilized countries. We can not tax food. But Bobby pushed and pushed with no results. The other one is that train to nowhere. The one that was crazy expensive and cost the taxpayer big time! Thanks Bobby no one needed that money for food or anything.

Taos, New Mexico, was not exactly the place I expected to have the best barbecue I've tried in years, but life is full of surprises. When I first drove past Jeff's Joint BBQ, I thought it looked promising somehow, and my instincts proved to be correct: this is the best BBQ I've had since Clark's Outpost in Tioga, TX (it was North Carolina before that).
The busy pitmaster (Jeff, presumably, although I did not have a chance to ask) wandered by the counter once or twice, and my inquiry as to the house specialty yielded the answer, "Ribs". Thanks. There are 4 kinds here: spare ribs, baby back, beef ribs, and short ribs. Naturally, I wanted to try all of them, and herein lies the biggest problem with going places solo as I so often end up doing. The intensely sweet but scattered woman behind the cash register was more of a hindrance than help with ordering, but in the end, I settled on a half rack of spare ribs over the baby back, plus half-pound orders each of beef ribs, short ribs, and sausage (to go--even I can't eat all that in one sitting).
It was all fantastic. This guy really knows what he's doing. The ribs all benefited from a nice dry rub, then were barbecued/smoked by an expert. The meat comes out so juicy and tasty that it hardly needs the tangy, not-too-sweet, house barbecue sauce served on the side, but is enhanced by it beautifully.
My big regret: not being able to try to the Saturday-only special, Stephane's grilled and sliced whole top sirloin. Maybe next time.

Santa Fe sees all seasons with an average of about 300 sunny days per year, with 14 inches of rain and 17 inches of snow as a yearly average. The hottest days are usually in June, when temps can reach into the high 90s. Because of the altitude, temperatures can swing 30 degrees in a single day, and sometimes you can see all 4 seasons in a single day. The Town of Taos, NM was incorporated as a general law municipality on May 7, 1934. The name Taos was first introduced by Juan Belarde, secretary to Don Juan de Onate in 1598, when he wrote, "this day, after mass, we went on to the province of the Taos which they also called Tayberon and others". He had heard the Picuris Indians pointing to the northeast, say that their relatives the "Tao" lived yonder. Subsequently, by 1760 the Village was named "Don Fernando de Taos" by the Spanish settlers. Historians believe the name is attributed to Captain Don Fernando de Chavez, one of the settlers prior to the rebellion, who owned the land currently known as the Cristobal de la Serna land grant. Don Fernando never came back after the rebellion.

Jeff Northrup may be the biggest idiot I have ever seen (I tended bar for most of my life so I have seen alot). Jeff really has no cause, all I can figure is he is a dumb ass for hire. I think (but have no proof except common sense) he must be paid by Smith's or Allsups. Why else would this moron spend day after day putting those ugly florescent signs all of our beautiful town of Taos? Adventure Ski & Snowboard Shops Now With 2 Locations Adventure Ski Shop is not only my favorite place in Taos for skis because of its great selection but because it is owned and operated by one of the nicest guys in Taos. Moises Martinez is not only a great business man that has been in Taos, New Mexico his entire life. He is also a good friend of mine and I know he knows more about skiing than anyone in town... He is also just a pretty cool guy and these days that goes a long way. I recommend Adventure Ski shops for all your skiing needs.
